Billie Eilish announces new album ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’

Global superstar Billie Eilish has finally announced details of her highly-anticipated third album, Hit Me Hard and Soft.

Over the last 12 months, Eilish has continuously dropped hints about her next body of work, and now, the wait for the final product is almost over. Hit Me Hard and Soft is set to arrive on May 17th via Darkroom and Interscope Records. Like her first two records, it’s a collaborative effort with her brother, Finneas, who co-wrote and produced the album.

Unfortunately for fans, they will have to wait until the date mentioned above to hear a full song from the forthcoming record as Eilish, in an unorthodox move, has chosen against releasing singles from Hit Me Hard and Soft.

Taking to Instagram, Eilish shared the artwork for her third album along with a trailer. The singer-songwriter also told fans: “So crazy to be writing this right now i’m nervyyyyy & exciteddd. Not doing singles i wanna give it to you all at once. Finneas and i truly could not be more proud of this album and we absolutely can’t wait for you to hear it. Love you love you love you.”

Additionally, a press announcement for the album reads: “The album does exactly as the title suggests: hits you hard and soft both lyrically and sonically while bending genres and defying trends along the way. ‘HIT ME HARD AND SOFT’ journeys through a vast and expansive audio landscape, immersing listeners into a full spectrum of emotions.”

The message concludes: “It’s what the multiple Grammy and Academy Award winner does best, continuing to affirm Billie Eilish as the most exciting songwriter of her time.”

Eilish, who recently criticised the music industry’s obsession with releasing multiple versions of albums on vinyl to conquer the charts, has backed up her words with actions as Hit Me Hard and Soft will only be available in “limited variants”.

The star claimed during a recent interview: “I can’t even express to you how wasteful it is. It is right in front of our faces and people are just getting away with it left and right, and I find it really frustrating as somebody who really goes out of my way to be sustainable.”

Furthermore, the vinyl copies of Hit Me Hard and Soft will use “100% recyclable materials”, as Eilish continues to use her platform to fight for sustainability.

Although no singles will be released from Hit Me Hard and Soft before May 17th, last year, she told Dua Lipa on her At Your Service podcast of the record’s sonic direction: “Everything is different about it. The way that I exist in the room is different, my voice has completely changed since then…The voice-changing thing is a trip! It’s all kind of shocking.”
