Fans of Lost in Translation will all go a little weak at the knees today as it has been confirmed that Sofia Coppola and Bill Murray are teaming up for a new project.
The 2003 film, written, produced and directed by Coppola and arguably remains her most celebrated work to date, became the holy grail for all indie films as it went on to land an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
Lost in Translation also earned Coppola Oscar nominations for Best Director and Best Picture and Bill Murray a nomination for Best Actor. Now, it seems, the pair trying to do it all again.
Coppola will again direct Bill Murray but this time it will be in the upcoming film On the Rocks, a feature that will follow a “young mother who reconnects with her larger-than-life playboy father on an adventure through New York.”
Director Coppola also wrote the script and will produce alongside Youree Henley with Mitch Glazer and Roman Coppola brought in as executive producers.
On the Rocks marks the first film produced under A24’s recent deal with Apple. On top of that, Rashida Jones will also co-star in the film.
