Big Thief reveal they have already recorded another album: “It’s not what you expect”

Big Thief have been hard at work; the band admitted that they have already recorded another album, despite only releasing Double Infinity this month.

Speaking to The Los Angeles Times, the admission came about while the band responded to the reception their recent project had received. Despite the overwhelmingly positive critical response to the new release, the band admitted in the interview to reading some of the less-than-favourable criticism.

The guitarist and backing vocalist Buck Meek then remarked slyly, “Wait till you hear the next one we already made. It’s not what you expect.”

After this wild admission, as is typical of Big Thief fashion, Adrienne Lenker turned her attention to the inventive structure throughout Double Infinity. She enjoyed “Not having to put a bridge [in a song]. Letting ourselves repeat something 44 times because it feels good — that took this long to give ourselves the permission and freedom to be able to do. And I think in that expression there’s so much depth, if you’re looking for it, and if you’re paying attention.”

Big Thief are currently on their North American tour, which began at Channel 24 in Sacramento on September 17th and is set to wrap up on November 7th at the White Oak Music Hall in Houston, Texas.

They also recently announced a ‘Somersault Slide 360 Tour’ across the UK and Europe in 2026. On the road across the continent, the band will first hit Oslo on April 8th, and eventually play three nights in London’s O2 Academy Brixton, before ending things in Hamburg on June 16th.

In a glowing four-and-a-half-star review of Double Infinity, Far Out wrote, “Listen however you want: either put it on in the background and let it gently comfort you as you go about your day, or allow it to envelop you in all of its subtle compositional delights and the childlike wonder of Lenker’s ever-majestic world-building. Just know that they do, in fact, make them like they used to. Arguably, they’re making them better.”
