Acclaimed actress Bibi Andersson has died, aged 83
Bibi Andersson, the Swedish actress well known for her incredible collaborations with filmmaker Ingmar Bergman, has died at the age of 83.
Andersson, who became the muse of Bergman for close to four decades, began her career in a Bergman-directed commercial when she was just she was just 15-years-old.
Growing on her budding success, Andersson became a major star in the 1950s when she starred in Bergman films The Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries.
“She has been sick for many years, but it is sad. I found out that Bibi passed away lunchtime today,” her friend friend and film director Christina Olofsson told the Stockholm news outlet Aftonbladet.
Andersson has been living in a Swedish nursing home since a 2009 stroke left her unable to speak.
While she won the hearts of Manu, her major accolade came when he won awards in 1963 at the 13th Berlin International Film Festival, claiming the Silver Bear for Best Actress award for her role in Vilgot Sjöman’s film The Mistress.
On top of that, Andersson won awards for her role in Persona, winning the award for Best Actress at the 4th Guldbagge Awards
