Benson Boone cancels Birmingham set an hour before start time
Pop star Benson Boone canceled his Birmingham concert only an hour before it was due to start due to an illness affecting his throat and vocal cords.
The news was shared via a social media post. The gig was set to take place at the Utilita Arena as part of his American Heart tour, until they released a statement that began: “We’re sorry to share that Benson Boone’s show tonight, Saturday 1st November, at Utilita Arena Birmingham has been cancelled due to artist illness.”
After the venue promised it was “working through all possible options to reschedule”, they wrote, “we understand how disappointing this is and sincerely apologise for the extremely short notice and the inconvenience caused.”
They wished Boone a speedy recovery from his illness, and took to the next slide to share his statement on the matter. The 23-year-old singer shared that he has “tried everything I can to revive my voice, but I cannot give you the show I’d like to be able to give you with the condition of my throat right now.”
The ‘Beautiful Things’ singer continued, “I am working with my team to find a date to reschedule as sooon as possible.”
He wrote, candidly, “This is genuinely the crappiest feeling, I am so sorry. I promise you I will do everything in my power to make it up to you. I’ll update you as soon as I can. Thank you for everything you do.”
Many music fans have been resistant to his rise to prominence. Following his performance earlier this year at the Grammys, Boone faced ridicule on social media for his acrobatics. The Coachella crowd was also lukewarm when he introduced May at the festival. Boone responded by mocking the audience with a cardboard cutout of the Queen guitarist during his second set in California.
In April, he took to TikTok to respond to his haters, insisting that, “If you hate me or my music, at least have a good reason for it.” Boone continued: “I just read a comment that said ‘idek why I hate Benson Boone but it feels right.’ Like WHAT!? how am I supposed to improve after reading that?”
