Benson Boone at heart of Sony’s new merchandising court order

Pop star Benson Boone is at the heart of a new court order, whereby his merchandise business partner has filed an order banning the sale of all Boone-related knock-offs.

In a new legal filing in New York courts, Sony Music’s Ceremony of Roses has focused on Boone’s upcoming show at Madison Square Garden.

It noted, “Defendants will sell unauthorised, infringing t-shirts, jerseys, caps and/or other merchandise” with Boone’s trademark-protected brand “in the vicinity of the concert, before, during and after his performance, and at subsequent concerts during the tour.”

Ceremony of Roses has stressed that it “possesses the exclusive right to utilise all federally registered trademarks, service marks, likenesses, logos,” and any other Boone-related graphics.

Though Ceremony of Roses has addressed bootleg merchandise sellers that impact their sales, they do not have a specific company or person in mind. As a result, the lawsuit is filed against John Doe and XYZ Company.

However, the filing is hopeful that the court will issue an injunction that officially bans the sale of unofficial Boone merchandise. It also asks US marshals and local police forces to “seize and impound any and all infringing merchandise which the defendants attempt to sell or distribute within or in the vicinity of the artist’s concerts on the tour.”

Boone quickly rose to fame in the industry in 2024 with his breakthrough single ‘Beautiful Things’. It topped the charts and has been streamed on Spotify more than two billion times. The singer also performed the track earlier this year at the Grammys.

Boone has already hit plenty of career landmarks, such as supporting Taylor Swift last summer at Wembley Stadium in London and performing ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ with Queen’s guitarist Brian May at Coachella earlier this month.

He will play at Madison Square Garden on September 5th as part of his American Heart World Tour.
