Beck announces Valentine’s Day mini-album, ‘Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometime’
Beck has announced a very special Valentine’s Day release in the form of a mini-album, Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometime.
The upcoming collection combines his singles and soundtrack contributions, eclectic cover versions, and previously unreleased recordings.
The time comes from Beck’s previous version of the Korgis’ song that first appeared on the soundtrack to 2004’s The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. On the track, he sings, “Look around you, change your heart, it will astound you.”
Additionally, the opener will be followed by a cover of Elvis Presley’s ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ and the Flamingos’ ‘I Only Have Eyes for You’, in keeping with the theme of devastating romance.
Beck then pays tribute to John Lennon on ‘Love’ and Caetano Veloso on ‘Michelangelo Antonioni’. As such, the only Beck original included in the release is ‘Ramona’, which has been taken from the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World soundtrack.
The final two tracks are never-before-heard recordings of some of his signature reinterpretations: Hank Williams’ ‘Your Cheatin’ Heart’ and Daniel Johnston’s ‘True Love Will Find You in the End’ finish off the lustful, eight-track project.
Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometime will enjoy a physical release on February 13th, on opaque red vinyl.
In the summer of 2025, Beck went on a limited run of special orchestral tour dates, which also featured his regular backing band, consisting of Jason Falkner, Roger Manning, and Joey Waronker. He has yet to announce any 2026 shows.
Beck’s last full-length release was 2019’s Hyperspace; he followed it up with a visual reimagining of the project led by Artificial Intelligence, paired with an iconic NASA mission. Hyperspace: A.I. Exploration was subsequently released in 2020.
