Acclaimed film director Spike Jonze has shared the first trailer from the upcoming new documentary about rap group the Beastie Boys.

Simply titled Beastie Boys Story, the new documentary will premiere in IMAX cinemas on April 3rd. Following that, Jonze has struck a deal with Apple TV+ who will then house the film on their streaming platform from April 24th.

Now we have the first trailer for the doc we can see that Jonze is most certainly taking this one down an emotive.

The trailer shows the new documentary be predominantly based around the 2019 two-man show of the same name, featuring intimate discussions with surviving band members Ad-Rock and Michael “Mike D” Diamond.

“There are some friends you have lunch with so many times over the years, you know their order,” Ad-Rock and Mike D said in a joint statement. “Spike is one of those friends. And even when you don’t recognise anything on the menu, he comes up with something good for the whole table.

“Like when we wondered what to do when our book comes out… then Spike placed his order: You will put on a show for the children.”

“I owe Beastie Boys a lot,” Jonze said in a statement about the new project. “One time, they pulled me out of a burning ship, and another time they helped me cheat on my college exam to get into Florida State. So, it was a real privilege to get to reunite with them and help them tell their story.”
