Beastie Boys icon Mike D announces first North American solo tour
The Beastie Boys‘ Mike D has confirmed details of his first-ever solo tour later this summer, in support of his forthcoming album, Thank You.
Nearly 20 years on from the last Beastie Boys concert, Mike D will kick off his short run of solo dates on August 30th at Boston’s Royale, which boasts a capacity of around 1,200 guests.
From there, Mike D will appear live four more times along the East Coast: in Washington’s 930 Club on September 1st, in Asheville’s The Orange Peel on September 3rd, in Atlanta’s The Eastern on September 5th, and finally in Queens’ Knockdown Center on September 9th.
Throughout the shows, Mike D will be backed by his band, 5D, which includes his sons Skyler and Davis Diamond, as well as Eddie Ruscha, Will Graefe, and Milo Ruscha.
The tour is in support of his forthcoming solo album, set for an August 28th release. Thank You will feature 10 songs, and represents a fruitful collaborative symbol for the musician, who gushed at the time of announcement, “It’s been so much fun making this music with people I love, and I have grown to really appreciate in our collaboration.”
He then added of his hopes for the record, “And I just hope it’s fun for others and not overly serious, because let’s be real, I’m releasing this music into a very strange and dark and power-fixated world that really devalues art and feelings and compassion and empathy and equality.”
Earlier this summer, Mike D previewed some material from Thank You throughout the UK and Europe, including a special festival set at Primavera Sound Porto. So far, fans can hear singles ‘Switch Up’, ‘What We Got’, and ‘True Colors’ from the new record, which promises to be a genre-spanning, celebratory affair.
