Beach Bunny shares their song for unrequited love ‘Ms. California’
We’ve all been there, right? In love with someone, who has the audacity to be in a relationship with someone else. Well, Chicago’s Beach Bunny knows exactly what you’re going through on their new single ‘Ms. California’. It’s our Track of the Day.
The quartet deliver a familiar sound across the board on their second single from their upcoming album. The full-length record lands on Valentine’s Day 2020 and already has us wrapped around its finger. The LP, titled, Honeymoon is out on Mom + Pop records and looks destined to make your life a little more colourful.
Taking on a subject like unrequited love isn’t exactly the newest of concepts. But Beach Bunny manages to approach the subject matter with a refreshed outlook that feels both ‘classic’ – the chorus could be straight out of the eighties radio rock set – and effervescently fresh.
Lili Trifilio, the band’s frontwoman, said “‘Ms. California’ tells the story of someone who is secretly in love with a person who is in a relationship and wishes that they could be their significant other. I wanted to write a song that captured the frustrating and feelings of jealousy and bitterness – something many of us have experienced.”
It’s a triumph of indie rock built for the thumping of dashboards and soundtracking of road trips. It’s another hint that 2020’s Beach Bunny record Honeymoon is going to be very good indeed.
