Barry Manilow provides cancer update: “Agony”
Barry Manilow has provided a promising update on his cancer diagnosis after being forced to cancel several arena shows.
In December, the star revealed he had been diagnosed with lung cancer, which was caught early after a bout of bronchitis.
At that time, he pushed back shows scheduled in January, and, earlier this week, went on to cancel them altogether. He has also postponed his Las Vegas residency to have a longer rest period.
In a new video posted on X, the musician looked healthy while addressing his fans: “Hi everyone, Barry Manilow here. Well, looks like I made it and I look fabulous, right?”
He added, “You know, with everything that’s going on in the world, I wanted to check in and share some good news. In fact, it’s great news,” he continued, revealing that his latest single, ‘Once Before I Go’, had hit the top ten in the Billboard Adult Contemporary Charts.
He then turned his attention to his current health situation, sharing, “I also want to say thank you [to] all of you for your messages of support in these last couple of months. It’s been a long ride, and since I have no patience, it’s been agony, but I am getting stronger, and I have great doctors and wonderful friends and family, but I am so looking forward to getting back on stage.”
Manilow then revealed cheekily that he is gearing up to release a new album; “What a time it’s been,” Barry sighed in the video, before adding, “Hey! That’s the name of my new album! It’s called What a Time. It comes out real soon, and I can’t wait to show these songs to you.”
The 82-year-old looked ahead at the rest of his career excitedly, adding, “Here’s to another century of making music together, my friends.”
