Barry Can’t Swim announces new ‘Late Night Tales’ compilation
Mercury Prize-nominated electronic artist Barry Can’t Swim has announced details of his first Late Night Tales compilation.
Late Night Tales is a rite of passage. Previous artists to have made their mix for the label include MGMT, Bonobo, Metronomy, Jon Hopkins, Khruangbin, Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders, Floating Points, and Air.
Barry Can’t Swim’s upcoming Late Night Tales mix is the first that has been released in five years, and has been previewed with the dreamy, ‘Chala (My Soul Is On A Loop)’. The full compilation will be released on March 6th, 2026, and kicks off Late Night Tales’ 25th anniversary celebrations.
On the release, Barry includes a mix of his own unreleased material, such as ‘Sometimes I Feel So Alone’, as well as reworkings of Felt’s ‘Ferdinand Magellan’ and Superpitcher’s ‘Yves’. He also calls in a helping hand from frequent collaborators O’Flynn and Seamus.
Barry Can’t Swim said of the forthcoming compilation, “I was absolutely buzzing when I got asked to do Late Night Tales. Over the moon. It was such a significant thing for me. It’s a series that works consistently with really great artists, so it felt like a massive privilege to even be considered to be among the kind of people that Late Night Tales typically works with.”
The Scottish DJ then explained how he approached curating the project, “I have this Spotify playlist that’s called Barry Can’t Curate. I’d always put electronic music and different things in there that maybe I wouldn’t get to play in DJ sets.”
He elaborated, “Late Night Tales is in the same world really – another place where you can share the music you love, but not necessarily music you’d play on a dancefloor.”
The Late Night Tales announcement comes a day after Barry Can’t Swim was nominated for ‘Breakthrough Artist’ at the Brit Awards.
2025 was a landmark 12 months for the producer, who released his triumphant second album, Loner, and also established himself as a festival headliner at All Points East.
