Barbie launches new Stevie Nicks doll: “I’m just thrilled”
Barbie have officially launched a new Stevie Nicks doll.
This will be the second doll made in Nicks’ likeness. The first was released in 2023, inspired by the Fleetwood Mac album cover for their seminal record, Rumours.
The new doll pays homage to her debut solo album, Bella Donna. On that album, hits like ‘Edge of Seventeen’, ‘Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around’, and ‘Leather and Lace’ ensured Nicks’ unwavering stardom. The new doll celebrates the album’s 43rd anniversary.
The doll is adorned in a flowing chiffon dress and layered skirt, and is complete with her trademark top hat, high-heeled boots, and a microphone in her hand.
Nicks reacted to the news positively, sharing with People, “I’m just thrilled. It’s the only good thing since I broke my shoulder.” Earlier this year, on August 1st, Nicks announced that all of her upcoming tour dates in August and September were postponed due to a shoulder injury. The tour eventually began at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, on October 1st.
Though she recently confessed that she “was in a lot of pain” as a result of the injury, she told People that she is doing her very “best,” even though “a broken shoulder is way more than I ever could possibly imagine.”
She also weighed in on the cultural importance of the Barbie dolls. “It’s almost like you almost kind of had to do that. I mean, of course, they didn’t have to do that for me, but I explained, ‘It’s like they go hand in hand, and then they blend in and out of each other for the rest of my life.’ ”
She added that the dolls are a “story of my whole musical life. If I have a legacy, if I have ‘What do I leave behind that is sacred?’ I think that it’d be Barbie. Rumours and Bella Donna Barbie are a huge part of what I leave behind when I go on to the next planet.”
Nicks will continue the rest of her tour until December 10th, her last scheduled date, when she will play Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida. Notable stops along the way include the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on November 19th and the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, which she played on October 11th.
