Bad Bunny slams Fox News for Super Bowl slander in ‘SNL’ monologue
Bad Bunny started season 51 of Saturday Night Live with a bilingual monologue that touched on the backlash to his upcoming Super Bowl halftime show.
“I’m very happy,” he shared of the huge opportunity, which will be watched by over 100 million people. “And I think everyone is happy about it. Even Fox News.”
SNL then showed the audience clips of the conservative news channel slating his upcoming performance. The clips made sure to reference Bad Bunny’s recent comments about not playing the United States on his latest tour because of fears relating to his fans encountering ICE.
Eventually, the clips were edited to make anchors Laura Ingraham and Sean Hannity say, “Bad Bunny is my favorite musician, and he should be the next president.”
Switching to Spanish, he shared his gratitude to his real supporters, “Especially all of the Latinos and Latinas in the world here in the United States who have worked to open doors.”
He continued in Spanish, “It’s more than a win for myself, it’s a win for all of us. Our footprints and our contribution in this country, no one will ever be able to take that away or erase it.”
Switching back to English, he then joked, “If you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn.” The Super Bowl famously takes place in February.
The episode marked the return of the programme. On October 4th, host Bad Bunny was joined by musical guest Doja Cat. On Oct 11th, Amy Poehler returns to host alongside music act Role Model, and on Oct 18th, Sabrina Carpenter will take on both roles as host and musical guest.
Though Bad Bunny’s upcoming performance is cause for celebration, Kristi Noem, the Secretary of Homeland Security, has confirmed that ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) will be attending the event in order to crack down on immigration.
