Ayo Edebiri and Will Sharpe to star in new romantic comedy for Apple TV+

Apple TV+ have announced Ayo Edebiri will star in a new seven-episode romantic comedy, Prodigies, opposite The White Lotus star Will Sharpe.

Written and directed by Sharpe, Prodigies follows two ex-child geniuses who have been together since childhood. When the series begins, they are in their early thirties, and it will hone in on the unexpected way their adult lives have turned out.

Though the romantic comedy genre often promises to depict easy, joyful, and unrealistically happy relationships, Prodigies will examine the hardships of the pair’s relationship.

Juxtaposing their very normal adult lives with the extraordinary expectations once placed on them, the show will track the couple as an existential doubt seeps into their relationship.

Though Edebiri has not yet featured in a project of this genre, she has shown her appreciation for romantic comedies. In 2023, she cited Roger Michell’s 1999 romantic comedy Notting Hill, starring Hugh Grant, Julia Roberts, Rhys Ifans and Emma Chambers, as one of her top four favourite movies.

Edebiri has been rising to true stardom over the past year. Boston, Massachusetts, has recently declared April 10th as Ayo Edebiri Day to celebrate The Bear star.

No release date has been announced yet. Edebiri and Sharpe are executive producers alongside Jane Featherstone, Naomi de Pear and Katie Carpenter.
