Australian Prime Minister apologises following sexual comments about Kylie Minogue
The Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has apologised after he made sexual comments about Kylie Minogue while appearing on a podcast.
Albanese had appeared on the Bush Deep podcast, hosted by Nikki Osborne, last week, when he engaged in a game of “shag, marry, or date” in relation to Minogue.
The Australian prime minister was asked to place one of these labels on either the pop star and actor, Nicole Kidman, or Rhonda Burchmore, to which he initially tried to avoid answering the question.
However, he eventually relented and replied, “Oh, Kylie, clearly,” before adding, “I’ve just got married, I’m only six months in,” referencing his partner Jodie Haydon, whom he wed last November.
When subsequently probed on which of the three options he would like to attribute to Minogue, Albanese then said: “All of the above. She’s terrific.”
With backlash mounting against the Prime Minister since the podcast episode went live late last week, he issued a statement in the early hours of July 6th which said, “I apologise unequivocally for the comments.”
No other statement has been made at this time, nor has Minogue publicly responded to the Australian leader. However, the country’s shadow Communications Minister, Sarah Henderson, blasted the Prime Minister by writing on X that the comments were “disrespectful to women, embarrassing to Australians and demean the office of Prime Minister”.
The podcast Bush Deep revolves around Osborne’s alter ego of ‘Bushie’, a “wildly inappropriate journalist” who asks “questions no one else would dare”.
With the podcast description notes on Spotify describing it as “loose [and] tongue in cheek”, the episode remains live at the time of writing.
