A new study has claimed that the experience of attending a gig once every two weeks can add up to nine yours to your life.
The study, which was conducted by O2 and Goldsmith’s University Associate Lecturer Patrick Fagan, claims that experiencing a live gig for just 20 minutes can result in a 21% increase in feelings of well-being. Further research details a direct link between “high levels of well-being [and] a lifespan increase of nine years”, which then suggests that the experience of being exposed to live music could potentially help you live longer.
The research adds that “additional scholarly research directly links high levels of wellbeing with a lifespan increase of nine years.” The basis of the study details and recommends that one concert every two weeks will score one’s “happiness, contentment, productivity and self-esteem at the highest level.”
Expanding more on the results of the study, Fagan heaped praise on the “profound” impact live music gigs can have on the human experience: “Our research showcases the profound impact gigs have on feelings of health, happiness and wellbeing – with fortnightly or regular attendance being the key,” he said.
“Combining all of our findings with O2’s research, we arrive at a prescription of a gig a fortnight which could pave the way for almost a decade more years of life.”
