Assault and defamation lawsuit dropped against Jonathan Majors
The ex-girlfriend of actor Jonathan Majors has dismissed a federal lawsuit alleging he assaulted and defamed her.
In December 2023, Majors was found guilty of reckless assault in the third degree and guilty of a further charge of harassment of his former partner, Grace Jabbari, who he allegedly attacked in the back of an SUX.
At the same time, he was also found not guilty of one count of assault in the third degree and of aggravated assault in the second degree. Jabbari also sued Majors earlier this year, alleging that he defamed her by denying the claims even after the guilty verdict, which he declared on live television during an interview.
Breaking his silence during Good Morning America, Majors addressed his guilty verdict, telling host Linsey Davis: “I’m standing there and the verdict comes down. I say, ‘How is that possible based off the evidence, based off the prosecution’s evidence, let alone our evidence? How is that possible?'”
The actor also said that the accusations made him feel “shocked and afraid” before reiterating that he would never physically harm a woman due to his own strengths. “I’m an athlete. I’m a sportsman. I know my body,” he said. “I know how it moves. I know my strength, or lack thereof, you know? None of that was employed on her.”
Majors was originally scheduled to be sentenced around the same time, but the date was postponed due to “a slew of post-conviction motions” filed by his lawyers. Due to Majors’ lack of criminal record, it appeared likely that he wouldn’t have received a prison sentence and would have instead faced a treatment programme, among other consequences.
However, the lawsuit was dropped recently after attorneys for both Majors and Jabbari filed a joint notice with the court stating that “all claims against Defendant in the above-captioned action are hereby dismissed with prejudice.”
Elsewhere, following what seemed like a hugely successful year in Hollywood after being cast in several films before the lawsuit caused many to halt production or drop him from the projects entirely. He was also set to star in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, but Marvel severed associations with him following his guilty verdict and he was dropped from his management and PR firms.
Majors continues to deny the assault claims and is expected to attempt to amend his career following the latest dismissal.
