Arnold Schwarzenegger claims he would make a “great president”
The Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger has discussed the state of politics in the United States, claiming he’d make a “great president”.
Schwarzenegger previously served as the 38th governor of California, holding the position in office from 2003 until 2011. However, as he is not a natural-born citizen of the US as he grew up in Austria until he was 19, the former bodybuilder is prohibited from running for president.
In a new interview with the BBC, Schwarzenegger explained why he’s not resentful about the fact he’s not allowed to run for the Oval Office. He said: “I feel like I would make a great president. But I feel that, at the same time, everything I’ve accomplished was because of America.”
“America gave me so many opportunities and the American people were so embracive, and they just received me with open arms,” he added. “There was no-one there that stopped me from my success. So the only thing that I can’t do, which is run for president, I’m not going to complain about that”.
While he’d like to see reform to the constitution, which would allow him to be president, Schwarzenegger doesn’t plan on campaigning for change. “I mean OK there is the constitution. We need some immigration reform, absolutely, to change that. But it would be a little bit selfish if I go out and try to change the law,” he noted.
Additionally, he also discussed another potential election between President Joe Biden and Donald Trump and revealed he’d rather see younger candidates battle for the presidency. “I just hope that America finds some really young blood,” he said.
Schwarzenegger added: “Because to me, it is a little bit odd that we are having a battle between people today in the late seventies and early eighties rather than people that in the forties and fifties or maybe even younger and have them have a chance at this great, great job.”
Earlier this year, the action star revealed he’s “done” with The Terminator. He explained: “The franchise is not done. I’m done. I got the message loud and clear that the world wants to move on with a different theme when it comes to The Terminator”.
