Ariana Grande to sue hackers who shared her unreleased music on the dark web
Ariana Grande is set to sue a group of hackers who allegedly leaked unreleased music and other private assets online.
The pop star and actor has accused the hackers, who remain anonymous at this stage, of stealing unreleased music as well as private photos and videos, and selling them online.
According to The Guardian, Grande filed a lawsuit in a Los Angeles court on July 27th, where the hackers are referred to as John Doe. She will reportedly seek to have the hackers named during the legal process.
The lawsuit alleges that hackers were able to access the work accounts of various people within Grande’s team, as well as impersonating people known to the singer, in order to extract unreleased music, music videos, and behind-the-scenes images and footage.
Grande and her team have accused the hackers of subsequently selling these assets on the dark web, which they claim is a “malicious invasion of Ms Grande’s privacy and disruption of her career.”
The alleged thefts “have caused her substantial and irreparable harm due to this breach of privacy,” the lawsuit says, before adding, “The unauthorised misappropriation and disclosure of these materials is a violation of Ms Grande’s identity and artistry, and the direct and sacred relationship that exists between her and her fans.”
The timing of the lawsuit comes as Grande is set to release her latest album, Petal, on July 31st, from which the single ‘Hate That I Made You Love Me’ has stood as the only preceding release. In the lawsuit, Grande accuses the hackers of stealing 45 songs from her in 2023 alone.
The ‘One Last Time’ singer is currently in the midst of her The Eternal Sunshine Tour, where she will perform in Quebec, Canada, over the next few nights before heading to London’s O2 Arena from August 15th to perform for ten nights.
