Anthony Kiedis biopic in early development
A biopic is in development focusing on Anthony Kiedis, the frontman of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, based on Kiedis’ 2004 autobiography titled Scar Tissue.
The film is currently in its initial stages of development at the studio, with Kiedis set to produce alongside Brian Grazer through Imagine Entertainment and Guy Oseary. As of yet, there is no timeline on when shooting will begin or who will portray the singer.
The memoir delves into the life of Kiedis, portraying him as an artist, addict, and influential figure. Set against the backdrop of the substance-fueled LA punk scene of the 1970s and 1980s, the book explores the unconventional father-and-son dynamic, shedding light on how Kiedis’ experiences played a crucial role in shaping the music that would later resonate with millions.
Kiedis, originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, relocated to LA at the age of 12, where his early exposure to the dynamic music scene laid the groundwork for his eventual career. In 1983, he co-founded Red Hot Chili Peppers with guitarist Hillel Slovak, bassist Flea and drummer Jack Irons.
The band’s unique blend of funk, punk, and rock and Kiedis’ dynamic and provocative stage presence swiftly garnered them a dedicated fan base. Kiedis’ life is characterised by a profound love for music, a tumultuous journey through addiction and recovery, and an unwavering dedication to artistic expression.
The distinction between right and wrong has been muddled in Kiedis’ mind since childhood, a trend that persisted into adulthood. While he undoubtedly faced a troubled upbringing, the singer has also inflicted pain on others.
According to Deadline, the new biopic will deliver an adaptation of Kiedis’ memoir that will be “a shockingly candid portrait of an artist, addict, and ringleader.”
Kiedis has since expressed regrets in writing the memoir, telling The Sun: “I did regret the book for a while as there was some pain caused. But then, I started seeing the long term positive reverberating. People were reading it in hospitals, in prisons and schools and it was having a positive effect.”
An exact release date for the biopic is yet to be confirmed.
