Anna of the North, the moniker of Oslo-based Anna Lotterud, has released a video for her new single, ‘Here’s To Another’.
The pure pop tune is a delightful entry in what I can only describe as the “fuck-up song.” You know the kind: a song that celebrates the faults and flaws within all of us because, hey, we’re just humans, and humans are inherent fuck ups. It’s all right there in the chorus: “Here’s to fucking up another night/another year/another girl.”
Like a ton of music that’s come out over the past year, it’s not hard to see where the inspiration for ‘Here’s To Another’ comes from.
“‘Here’s To Another’ is one of my favourite songs that I’ve ever written,” the artist says. “It’s very honest and the story of my life. It wasn’t intentional, but I think a lot of people can connect with the lyrics at the moment as we just put quite a strange and challenging year behind us. I can’t believe a whole year has passed, living in these absurd pandemic times. I’ve probably worn the same 5 outfits for a year now, I don’t shower every day anymore and I can’t remember the last time I put on make up. And the worst thing is that I don’t really mind it all. So I’ve probably gone mad.”
Haven’t we all, Anna? The video for ‘Here’s To Another’ finds Anna being “saved” from a party by a half-cute/half-terrifying creature that takes her on a journey before walking through a free-floating door, Scott Pilgrim style.
This is not the first pandemic video that has made me miss bars and parties and acceptable levels of public intoxication, and I am sure it will not be the last. At least the song is catchy enough to enjoy. Raise a glass, fellow fuck-ups.
