Andrea Arnold’s new movie ‘Bird’, starring Barry Keoghan, to launch in Berlin

Andrea Arnold is set to take her new film, Bird, to the European Film Market in Berlin next month, as she begins the launching process.

As of yet, the plot for the film, which stars Barry Keoghan and Franz Rogowski, is firmly under wraps. Bird has already been snapped up by Cornerstone Films, who have made the decision to unveil the production in the German city at the European Film Market, which coincides with the Berlin Film Festival and takes place from February 15th to 21st.

Bird was shot last summer in Kent, United Kingdom, according to Variety. During filming, Keoghan was pictured by the press while riding a scooter as a heavily-tattooed character with an unknown younger actor.

The movie marks Arnold’s first traditional film since 2016’s American Honey, which starred Sasha Lane, Shia LaBeouf and Riley Keough. The director’s last project was the 2021 documentary Cow, which captured the life of a cow called Luma on a dairy farm in Kent.

Due to scheduling conflicts, Keoghan chose to prioritise working on Bird with Arnold over Gladiator 2 after being lined-up to play Emperor Geta in the Ridley Scott blockbuster. The role has since been filled by The White Lotus star Fred Hechinger.

Keoghan was recently nominated for a Bafta in the ‘Best Lead Actor’ category for his performance in Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn. He will face off against Maestro’s Bradley Cooper, Rustin’s Colman Domingo, Oppenheimer’s Cillian Murphy, The Holdovers star Paul Giamatti and Tee Yoo from Past Lives at the ceremony on February 18th at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

In a four-star review of Saltburn, Far Out wrote: “As cocaine-snorting, fashionable consumerists, they are the modern-day royalty that line painted on the walls of Saltburn. Keoghan’s Oliver is very much aware of this, too, and doggedly attempts to remain amongst the elite ala The Talented Mr. Ripley, playing a sneaky, unhinged maniac who has as much fun as possible whilst trying to dismantle the system.”
