Amy Madigan casts doubt on ‘Weapons’ prequel: “We know what this business is like”
Amy Madigan has shared her doubts on the likelihood of a prequel to horror film Weapons, which focuses on the character of Aunt Gladys.
Rumours of a sequel began circulating after the movie’s release and subsequent success, but despite the demand, Madigan, who plays Aunt Gladys in the 2025 horror, has admitted she doubts it will happen.
She said, “I’ve been asked that quite a number of times. Zach Cregger, who’s our writer/director, he says, ‘Yes, this is going to happen.'”
Adding, “But we know how long stuff takes, we know what this business is like, and nothing’s real till it is, and timing and all those things.”
Madigan confirmed that she would be open to starring in a prequel if it were made, but wanted to wait until something was official before committing to the picture.
“If that happened, that would be great, because I trust Zach and he’s got a lot of whacky ideas in his head,” she said.
Amy Madigan won ‘Best Supporting Actress’ at this year’s Oscars for her portrayal of Aunt Gladys in Weapons.
She took home the esteemed award in what was considered one of the most unpredictable categories of the night, as Elle Fanning, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Wunmi Mosaku and Teyana Taylor were also nominated.
Madigan thanked her fellow cast and crew during her speech, as the 2026 Academy Awards proved yet again that the horror genre is capable of being Oscar-worthy.
