Amazon backtracks after removing guns from ‘James Bond’ posters

Amazon have made a U-turn after editing out guns from James Bond movie posters on Prime Video following fan backlash.

On October 1st, the streaming giant made all 25 films in the 007 series available to watch on Prime Video, which came shortly before James Bond Day on October 5th.

Ahead of James Bond Day, Prime Video shared a series of posters for the movies in the Bond franchise. However, they had cropped guns from the posters, such as the famous .44 Magnum that Roger Moore holds in the promotional shot for Live and Let Die.

While Amazon has yet to publicly respond to the criticism, including one post on X that has been viewed more than 500,000 times that reads, “They photoshopped all the guns out of the James Bond movie thumbnails. Just in case you still had hope for Amazon being in charge of the franchise,” they have quietly made a change.

They have now removed the new promotional images without guns and replaced them with stills from each movie in the Bond franchise. Notably, none of the stills used contain guns.

Amazon MGM Studios, and the Broccoli family struck an agreement in February, reportedly for $1 billion, that saw the studios take creative control of the James Bond franchise.

Since then, the wheels have begun turning on the new movie. As it stands, no 007 has been announced, but Amy Pascal and David Heyman are producing the project with Steven Knight on screenwriting duties and Denis Villeneuve in the director’s chair.

Upon being announced as director, Villeneuve said, “Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory.”

Villeneuve continued: “I intend to honour the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honour.”
