Amanda Seyfried wants Sydney Sweeney on board for ‘Mamma Mia 3’
Amanda Seyfried has expressed interest in getting actor Sydney Sweeney on board for her provisional Mamma Mia 3 movie.
Speaking newly to ET at the Governors Awards, Seyfried said, as per Variety, “Maybe I’m just naive, but I’m pretty sure Mamma Mia 3 is a done deal.”
The first movie in the franchise, starring Amanda Seyfried and Meryl Streep as mother-daughter leads, was released in 2008. The follow-up, starring Lily James as a young Donna Sheridan, titled Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, was released a decade later, in 2018.
Seyfried’s idea for Mamma Mia 3 has not yet been confirmed, but producer Judy Craymer has previously said that a script is in circulation.
Going on to discuss potential plot lines, Seyfried mused, “I love portraying a mom, so I would love to see Sophie with her kids.”
She continued, “Maybe she has a cousin she hasn’t seen in a while, and that could be Sabrina Carpenter. And then Sydney Sweeney could show up.”
It appears that Seyfried isn’t just stopping there. She added, “There’s a bunch of girls that really want to be a part of it, and I’m all for it.”
The Lovelace actor confirmed that other important faces will be returning. She said, “I just know the three dads are going to come back, and we still won’t know who the dad is because it doesn’t matter. Meryl [Streep] is a ghost, obviously, so she’ll be around.”
She added, “Julie [Walters] and Christine [Baranski] will be back singing and looking hot and we’re all going to be somewhere tropical. And ABBA will be playing.”
There is a high likelihood that this collaboration between The Handmaid co-stars might in fact come to fruition. In 2023, the Anyone But You actor told Variety, “I’ve always wanted to go to Greece. I love Mamma Mia — something like that would be really fun.”
