Alice Cooper to release first album with original band in over 50 years
Alice Cooper has announced the release of a new album, The Revenge of Alice Cooper, which marks the first time he and the original band members have released an album recorded together in 52 years.
Having separated from the rest of the group following the release of Muscle of Love in 1973, Cooper went on to establish himself as a solo artist, releasing 22 studio albums under the same pseudonymous moniker.
The other members of the original group, guitarist Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway and drummer Neil Smith are all present on the album, while the album is dedicated to founding lead guitarist Glen Buxton, who died in 1997.
Speaking to Billboard, Cooper has stated: “It was very much like this was our next album after Muscle of Love, just like, ‘OK, this is the next album.’ Isn’t that funny after 50 years? All of a sudden it just falls into place.”
The album’s lead single, ‘Black Mamba’, will premiere on Cooper’s radio show, Alice’s Attic, on April 22nd, and features contributions from The Doors’ guitarist, Robbie Krieger, who has been a friend of the band since their original run.
Producer Bob Ezrin, who also worked on the band’s earlier releases, said of the lead single: “When we started to play that it’s when I knew the spirit of the Alice Cooper group was back and that what we were making was very much an album that could’ve been in the ’70s, when we were last together.”
The Revenge of Alice Cooper will be released on July 25th via earMUSIC, the same label that has released all of Cooper’s solo material since 2017’s Paranormal.
