Alex Wolff reveals ambition to work with director Lynne Ramsay
In an exclusive interview with Far Out, rising Hollywood star Alex Wolff revealed his ambitions to work with director Lynne Ramsay in the future.
Scottish filmmaker Ramsay is one of the most celebrated British directors of the 21st century, helming beloved movies such as We Need To Talk About Kevin and You Were Never Really Here. For her next project, Die, My Love, which is believed to be scheduled for release in 2025, Ramsay has recruited Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson.
Ramsay typically spends many years working on each project that she puts her name to, therefore, it’s likely to be a long wait until she creates a follow-up to Die, My Love. Nevertheless, Wolff, who stars in Ethan Berger’s new debut feature, The Line, is holding out hope to one day feature in a future production by Ramsay.
Despite only being 26, Wolff has amassed an impressive and varied CV. While he first achieved fame as a child on the Nickelodeon series, The Naked Brothers Band, Wolff has since proved his credentials as a serious actor, appearing in movies such as Jumanji: The Next Level, Bad Education, Pig, Old, Oppenheimer and A Quiet Place: Day One.
Now, in a new conversation with Far Out, Wolff looked ahead to the future, stating, “Oh yeah, man, I’m hungry. I’m hungry, and I’m looking, so if you hear of anything that’s good, I’d love to.”
After Wolff asked Far Out’s Scott Campbell where he’s situated, this prompted conversation surrounding Ramsay’s film, Morvern Callar, which was largely filmed in the same Scottish coastal town.
Wolff replied: “That’s so crazy! Because when people ask me what directors I want to work with, Lynne Ramsay is one of the three people that I say.”
Elaborating on his desire to work with the Scottish director, Wolff continued: “I say Lynne Ramsay because Morven Callar is one of my favourite movies ever, and Ratcatcher and You Were Never Really Here. She’s one of my favourites. I’d love to make a movie in Scotland; that’s what’s on my bucket list, so please let me know if they need an American in Scotland.”
How Alex Wolff prepared for ‘The Line’
Wolff’s new movie, The Line, is now in cinemas. It sees him portray a college student dedicated to the fictional Kappa Nu Alpha fraternity. To prepare for the role, Wolff immersed himself within the world of fraternity groups, and spent time among them which proved to be incredibly beneficial to his performance.
“I had to drink a lot of gin to gain their trust,” Wolff admitted of his time among these secretive groups that exist in college towns.
“We ended up kidnapping a few of the kids in the fraternity and putting them in the movie,” he shared with Far Out, indicating he ended up on their good side. “The irony is, I think that there are a lot of kids, especially towards the end, if they’ve stuck it out for three or four years, who start to see how things begin to erode inside of a fraternity. I think that a lot of kids start to see the evil side of things, so to speak.”
