Alex Lahey covers My Chemical Romance’s ‘Welcome to the Black Parade’

We don’t often like to give away our Track of the Day spot to a cover. But today is a Sunday and we truly think that everyone needs to hear this epic cover of My Chemical Romance’s ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’ from Alex Lahey.

One of our favourite singer/songwriters of recent times, Alex Lahey has an uncanny ability to make grandiose themes feels tangible, accessible and all in all, like real life. With her sophomore LP The Best Of Luck Club out now, Lahey found herself in the Triple J studio.

As part of their long-running ‘Like A Version’ slot, the team at Triple J ask their favourite bands to perform a cover of one of their favourite songs. Lahey chose the 2006 MCR track and delivered it with all the pompous grandeur it truly deserved.

What transpired is one of the most refreshing takes on the emo scene in a long while. Lahey and her arrangement lift the track from anthem of the broken-hearted to the high pedestal of Pet Sounds and Sgt. Pepper production.
