Alec Baldwin says he will “expose” the truth of ‘Rust’ shooting

Actor Alec Baldwin has claimed he will “expose” the truth of what really happened when cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was tragically killed on the set of Rust in 2021.

On the day of the shooting, a prop gun was fired with a live round in it, fatally injuring Hutchins. Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter for being the person who pulled the trigger, although he always claimed that wasn’t the case. The movie’s armourer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, pleaded not guilty to manslaughter but was sentenced to 18 months in prison for evidence tampering.

Even though the original manslaughter charges against Baldwin were dropped, he was re-indicted the following year by the grand jury after a new investigation. However, the charges were dropped in July when Baldwin’s legal team successfully argued that the Santa Fe sheriff’s office concealed evidence.

It has been a dark three years for the actor, who appeared on David Duchovny’s Fail Better podcast on December 16th to discuss his trials and tribulations. He claimed, “The truth of what happened has never been told,” and hinted that the public would soon learn new details about the distressing incident that would make them see him in an entirely new light.

“I think there’s more to come,” said Baldwin. “There’s more to come, but the more to come is now my effort, and it’s going to be undeniably a successful effort, to raise and to expose what really happened. I was counterpunching. I was on the defensive. I was being accused. I was being indicted.”

The star continued, “We have more shit that’s going to come out in ensuing legal filings and so forth. These last three years, people have just dined out. Because in this country, when people hate you on that level…They want you to die.”

With this comment, Baldwin was referring to the press outlets he believed did everything in their power to ensure he was convicted. He claimed the mainstream media suppressed any story that could have helped exonerate him while simultaneously championing any story that would tarnish his image in the eyes of the public.

Baldwin also believes his enemies in Hollywood, who have allegedly shunned him in the past three years, wanted nothing more than to see him imprisoned and “cancelled”. Indeed, he likened it to “being dead because you roam the earth and you’re invisible.”

Despite this, Baldwin is optimistic about his future prospects in the movie business in the wake of his charges being dropped, and he is keen to put the whole tragic situation behind him. He said, “I do believe that, by the communications I’ve had lately, things are coming back my way to work, and I’m happy about that because I’ve got seven kids. But I’ve also enjoyed the fact that there’s so much of this case that is not known because we didn’t have a full trial.”
