Aimee Lou Wood says Hollywood is “emotionally bulimic”

Aimee Lou Wood has opened up about her perspective on Hollywood, pointing to specific experiences on the set of her new movie, Anxious People.

The actor is currently filming Anxious People, an upcoming American comedy film directed by Marc Forster and written by David Magee, based on the 2019 novel by Fredrik Backman. Wood will star alongside Angelina Jolie in the film.

Speaking about her experience in Hollywood to Harper’s Bazaar magazine, Wood revealed that she is finding life in Los Angeles difficult. She explained it using an apt metaphor about consumption: “I find LA emotionally bulimic, and I say that as an ex-bulimic.”

The White Lotus star added, “It is this super-sized adventure where everyone’s talking about you all the time and you have to talk about yourself all the time. And then I leave, and I want to throw it all up.”

In comparison, Wood says that she considers acting a “safe place for me to work out my feelings”.

She then described a moment on set, in which multiple members of the crew were shouting at her while she was filming a particularly emotional scene. She expressed her dismay, recalling, “I’ve spent years feeling unable to say anything like that for fear of seeming argumentative – but now I feel like I can take ownership of what I need to thrive, and tell people what won’t work for me.”

Wood added, “When I spoke up, all I could see was Angelina giving me a thumbs up. She’s possibly the most famous woman ever, but she’s so normal. I’m fairly certain she drives herself to set each day…”

Meanwhile, Wood was recently confirmed to play George Harrison’s first wife, Pattie Boyd, in The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event. All four films will be released in April 2028.
