Adam Sandler reportedly replaces Christian Bale in Scott Cooper’s ‘Time Out’ remake
Adam Sandler is set to replace Christian Bale as the lead in Scott Cooper’s upcoming Time Out remake.
The news came by way of World of Reel, who shared that Bale has dropped out of the project, leaving space for Sandler to move into the role.
It is not clear why Bale left the project. The American Psycho star has been directed by Cooper before, in 2017’s Hostiles and 2013’s Out of the Furnace.
Time Out is a remake of Laurent Cantet’s 2001 film, L’Emploi du Temps, which follows Vincent, who is fired from his job, but keeps the tragedy from his wife and son, instead spinning a web of lies to conceal the situation.
Eventually, his lies threaten to topple his life and his family. The original cast included Aurélien Recoing, Jean-Pierre Mangeot, and Karin Viard.
Netflix is set to produce the remake, while the film is set to start production on April 1st in Vancouver.
This move makes sense for Sandler, who, earlier this year, vowed to make 50 more movies before his death. The Uncut Gems actor has starred in 70 movies across his career, ranging from the likes of Happy Gilmore to Grown Ups, Just Go With It, and, most recently, Jay Kelly, alongside George Clooney.
As for Cooper, earlier this year, it was announced that the director has found his next project: A UFO movie. Cooper is set to team up with 20th Century to write and direct a film based on the famous 1947 Roswell, New Mexico, conspiracy.
Cooper’s last film followed singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen, played by Jeremy Allen White. Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere depicts Springsteen as he struggles to reconcile the pressures of success with memories of his past as he records the album Nebraska.
Cooper’s other directing credits include Crazy Heart, Black Mass, Hostiles, Out of the Furnace, and The Pale Blue Eye.
