Adam Sandler named highest-paid actor for 2023

Adam Sandler has been named the highest-paid actor for 2023 in Hollywood. He earned £57 million during the calendar year.

Last year, Sandler released three films directly on Netflix, who the former Saturday Night Live cast member has been working exclusively with since 2015. In addition to starring in Murder Mystery 2 with Jennifer Aniston and You Are So Not Invited To My Bah-Mitzvah, Sandler also appeared in the animated film, Leo.

The list, by Forbes, features Barbie star Margot Robbie in second place. The Australian actor also acted as a producer on the movie and co-produced Saltburn, starring Barry Keoghan and Jacob Elordi. Her Barbie co-star Ryan Gosling came fourth, with Tom Cruise positioned in third.

Other notable Hollywood stars to feature include Aniston, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jason Statham, Ben Affleck and Denzel Washington.

In 2020, Sandler signed a new four-movie deal with Netflix reported to be worth $275 million. Upon securing him to a new contract, Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, said: “Whether you know him as Sandman, the Water Boy, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Nick Spitz or simply Adam, one thing is clear: our members can’t get enough of him.”

Sarandos continued: “They love his stories and his humor, as we saw with Murder Mystery. So I could not be more excited to extend our partnership with Adam and the Happy Madison team and deliver more laughs around the world.”

Sandler’s most recent film, Spaceman, arrived on Netflix on February 23rd and sees him portray an astronaut facing ongoing marital issues who sparks an unlikely friendship with an extra-terrestrial spider.

The actor recently reflected on the role and his experience of working with director Johan Renck, who Sandler said, “Kept saying, ‘I want to see none of Adam Sandler in there.’ I understood, I hear that in my house too: ‘I want to see none of Adam Sandler.’”

He continued: “I did my best. He didn’t want me sounding like me, he didn’t want me making faces. It was a difficult process.”
