Adam Driver confirms he is finished with ‘Star Wars’
Adam Driver has confirmed he will not be returning to the Star Wars franchise. The actor’s journey with his character, Kylo Ren, is over.
Following the latest Star Wars film, The Rise Of Skywalker, in 2019, there have been constant rumours about which characters might return. In April 2023, it was announced Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, Driver’s love interest, would be coming back to the series. The upcoming movie appears to focus on her character as it is unofficially titled Rey’s New Jedi Order Star Wars Movie.
Following the announcement, fans theorised over whether Driver’s Kylo Ren would make a dramatic comeback. Their characters are soulmates in the Star Wars cinematic universe, therefore it seemed plausible both would return.
However, hearts have been broken as Driver appears to have announced he will not be returning to the franchise. “They’re doing stuff, but not with me. I’m not doing any more,” Driver told the Smartless podcast.
In the last film, The Rise Of Skywalker, Kylo Ren dies, so the question of whether the character or Driver will find their way back into the series has been a hot topic. It appears this is really the end for both as the actor is asked, “You’re done because the character’s done?” which he confirms.
In the past, the franchise and its creators have made it clear that death doesn’t necessarily mean the end of a character’s journey or an actor’s involvement. Plenty of characters have come back to life in the series or reappeared as ghosts, including Princess Leia, Hans Solo and Luke Skywalker. Daisy Ridley’s character Ren returned from the dead at the end of the last episode, prompting the theories that Driver’s role would do the same.
It could be that Driver is bluffing to throw fans off. While he may be trying to intentionally mislead fans to protect a surprise in the upcoming film, that seems a very unlikely possibility.
