A24 announce full details of Talking Heads tribute album
After re-releasing Talking Heads’ iconic 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense in 2023, A24 are set to continue the celebration of their talent. The production company have roped in the stars for Everyone’s Getting Involved, a tribute album to the band.
The first taster of the album comes from Paramore as they took on ‘Burning Down The House’. Delivering the track with all the enthusiasm and downright fun that it deserves, it’s a promising opening number for the record. Bottling the energy of a band playing around with one of their favourite songs, it doesn’t try to reinvent the track totally but instead pays a perfect homage to the group’s 1980s energy.
Forty years after the release of Stop Making Sense’s original soundtrack, featuring live versions of some of the band’s biggest and best hits, an all-star team of artists has come together to share their own versions. Along with Paramore, major names including Miley Cyrus, Lorde, The National and Kevin Abstract are stepping up to the plate.
Some of the brightest rising stars of recent years are also involved as Blondshell, Girl In Red and The Linda Lindas join the lineup. Other names set for the project are Bad Bad Not Good, Toro y Moi, The Cavemen, Jean Dawson and more.
There is no clue yet as to which artist is taking on what track, but we’re certainly intrigued. Stop Making Sense features ‘Psycho Killer’, ‘Once In A Lifetime’, ‘This Must Be The Place’ and ‘Take Me To The River’. Along with a whole host of other beloved tracks, there is great potential for clever re-workings. A24’s Everyone’s Getting Involved will mirror the 16-song tracklist of the original album.
The record plans to re-contextualise the band’s best work 40 years after its initial release, bringing together a whole new generation of Talking Heads fans. All paying homage to the band that inspired their music, the multi-genre lineup feels certain to deliver an exciting take on the record.
