A newly-restored ‘Star Wars’ version returning to cinema in 2027 for 50th anniversary
The very first Star Wars will be returning to the big screen in 2027 to celebrate its momentous 50th anniversary.
The first Star Wars film to be released, which is also the fourth chronologically, is coming to cinemas on February 17th, 2027, as part of the iconic franchise’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
A statement on the official website broke the news. It read, “Switch on your targeting computer and keep your eyes on StarWars.com for more details, including when and where to buy tickets to this once-in-a-generation event.”
Star Wars parent company Disney announced that it would bring the project, which was retitled Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, back earlier this year. The news has come earlier than anticipated.
The “newly restored” version of the original film is expected to be the very same version that was shown earlier this year at the BFI in London.
This 1997 special edition differs from the original. The later edition has almost entirely replaced the original; George Lucas was behind this move, after he decided that digital technology had finally married with his “original vision” for the movie.
There is plenty of movement within the franchise universe as of late; just over three months after Star Wars is set to return to the cinema, Star Wars: Starfighter will hit the big screen.
Ryan Gosling will take the lead in the new Star Wars offering, with Shawn Levy in the director’s seat. Jonathan Tropper has written the screenplay for the film; he has previously written features for Levy, such as ‘The Adam Project’ and ‘This Is Where I Leave You’. He is also behind the Apple TV+ series ‘Your Friends & Neighbors’.
Starfighter will be the first Star Wars feature since The Rise of Skywalker debuted in December 2019. This feature will focus on new characters in the universe and is set roughly half a decade after Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.
