Bob Dylan biopic ‘A Complete Unknown’ release date revealed for digital home video
Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown has officially set its digital home video release date, giving audiences the chance to experience the Timothée Chalamet-led film from the comfort of their own homes.
Directed by James Mangold, A Complete Unknown sees Chalamet stepping into the shoes of the 19-year-old virtuosic troubadour in New York City, crossing paths with others who shaped his legacy, including Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, and Woody Guthrie.
Fans can now pre-order the movie on digital release and physical copies available on 4K UHD Blu-ray and standard Blu-ray ahead of its release on February 25th. The physical release will arrive on April 1st.
The movie is expected to continue its successful run at this year’s Academy Awards after being acknowledged for seven nominations, including a ‘Best Actor’ nod for Chalamet and ‘Best Picture’. However, the competition proves challenging with other contenders in the same categories, including The Substance, The Brutalist, Anora, and Emilia Pérez.
Still, it seems to have arrived at the right time, with intrigue in Dylan’s story never wavering. Among those praising the movie following its release was Baez, who has been the subject of major intrigue for her musical legacy and impact on Dylan’s career. Her story, however, is often eclipsed by the musician despite contributing to the singer-songwriter boom with just as much influence.
After its release, Baez commended Monica Barbaro’s performance and explained her relief at her inclusion not being central to the main story. “It was pleasantly brief,” she told Marin Independent Journal. “I loved what [Barbaro] did in the film.”
She continued: “If I didn’t think she was good at it, I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it in general. But she looked enough like me and she had my gestures down. You could tell who it was. She worked so hard. Kudos to her for taking the role on.”
The excitement surrounding the movie also continued after its release, partially due to Chalamet’s promotion in the spotlight with interviews and unexpected stints like his half-in-character performance on Saturday Night Live. While it has its share of criticism, the forthcoming digital and physical releases are expected to keep interest high.
