4 Non Blondes to reunite for first time in 30 years

American rock band 4 Non Blondes are set to reunite for the first time in more than 30 years at BottleRock Festival.

The festival is set to take place in Napa Valley, California, in May. Green Day, Justin Timberlake and Noah Kahan will headline the three-day event. Other acts confirmed include Khruangbin, Cage the Elephant, Public Enemy, Beach Bunny, Ice Cube, Benson Boone, Remi Wolf, Kate Hudson, Lauren Mayberry, Dope Lemon and Sharon Van Etten.

After releasing one album in 1992, Bigger, Better, Faster, More!, which sold more than 1.5 million copies, 4 Non Blondes parted ways. Following the band’s demise, lead vocalist Linda Perry has established a successful solo career, and is also a revered songwriter for other artists.

To announce the reunion, Perry appeared on The Allison Hagendorf Show. During the interview, the singer explained why it feels an appropriate time to reunite the band, stating, “It’s not (the right time) and I don’t know when it would (be). It’s more like, honestly, it’s the right time in my head. It’s the right time in my head.”

She continued: “I’ve been kind of putting that energy out, because I want 2025 to be my year. I want to own this year because I feel like I’ve been planting seeds all over the place and I’m watching my little trees grow.”

Perry said of the opportunity to perform at BottleRock: “We got this offer.. and I’m like, ‘Okay, I knew this was coming.’ I want this to happen. I’ve told the universe I want this to happen. And so it’s coming. So I called up the band, one by one. I said, ‘Hey, how do you guys feel about this?’ And mind you, we don’t talk. But they were excited, and so I’m gonna go hang out with them in San Francisco, rehearse and just dick around. Not really have a plan, but just see how it feels.”

Additionally, Perry described herself as “all or nothing” and discussed the prospect of new music from 4 Non Blondes.

“I’ve been already brewing… There’s a second 4 Non Blondes record that (was) recorded. I’ll leave it there,” she admitted. “It was pretty decent. (But) I just couldn’t do it. My heart couldn’t do it. I was in a really bad space during that time, because my feelings get hurt so easily. And so I left the band because my feelings just kept getting hurt and I didn’t know how to deal with it.”

Currently, 4 Non Blondes only have their performance at BottleRock scheduled in the calendar. However, Perry’s comments suggest that more dates will eventually follow.
