3 Doors Down frontman Brad Arnold reveals stage four cancer diagnosis
Brad Arnold, the front man for the Mississippi rock band 3 Doors Down, has revealed that he has stage four cancer.
The cancer Arnold has been diagnosed with is clear cell renal carcinoma which is a form of kidney cancer. At stage four diagnosis, patients have around a ten per cent survival rate.
In the video posted to Instagram, Arnold began earnestly: “I hope you’re having a great day today. I’ve got some not-so-good news for you today.”
He continued: “I’ve been sick [since] a couple of weeks ago and went to the hospital and got it checked out. Actually got the diagnosis that I’ve got clear cell renal carcinoma that had metastasised into my lung and it’s stage four; that’s not real good…”
Arnold remained cheerful and hopeful for fans, stating: “But you know what? We serve a mighty God, and he can overcome anything. So I have no fear,” he continued. “I really, sincerely am not scared of it at all.”
Arnold then apologised to fans and revealed the upcoming 3 Doors Down tour would have to be cancelled. The run of dates was due to kick off on May 16th in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The video was captioned, “Thank you for all the memories so far. Now, I believe “IT’S NOT MY TIME” is really my song.” In the post, Arnold referred to a 3 Doors Down song released in 2008. The lyrics are heartfelt and resilient, including the refrain: “It’s not my time, I’m not going, There’s a fear in me, it’s not showing, This could be the end of me, And everything I know.”
3 Doors Down were originally formed in 1996 by Arnold and former guitarist Matt Roberts, who passed in 2016. Their last album was also released in 2016, titled Us and The Night.
