Following some periods of quiet form our favourite wall-of-noise-bricklayers, Yak, are back and back with a bang on their new track ‘Bellyache’. It comes with a naturally odd video and some hard-hitting riffs. It’s our Track of the Day.
With a pan-pipe intro leading into some squashy psyche riffs Oli and the rest of the band are set out to deliver something with a fistful of power. ‘Bellyache’ does that from the first words which are rattled out with a Britpop swagger.
The track was written by frontman and guitarist Oli Burslem and he explains, “I was living out the back of my £205 car, completely broke as I had put all the money we had from the label into the band. It really felt like the last piece of music we would ever make and that we had to put everything we had into it. That’s where the last lyric “if you’re going for broke just make sure you don’t choke” comes from.”
