Wolf Alice’s Ellie Rowsell accuses Marilyn Manson of filming up her skirt without consent

Following last weeks’ allegations levelled at the American musician Marilyn Manson by former partner Evan Rachel Wood, who was supported in her statement by at least four other women and Gremlins star Corey Feldman, comes a further accusation.

Ellie Rowsell, the 28-year-old frontwoman for British dream-pop band Wolf Alice, is the latest to make a statement regarding Manson’s behaviour. Rowsell took to Twitter with a message of solidarity for those who have come forward.

On the 6th of February she wrote, “I met Marilyn backstage at a festival a few years ago,” adding, “After his compliments towards my band became more and more hyperbolic I became suspicious of his behaviour.

“I was shocked to look down and see he was filming up my skirt with a GoPro. There were no repercussions for his behaviour, his tour manager simply said ‘he does this kind of thing all the time’.” It’s the kind of apathetic shrugging that has seen widespread dismay gather around the music industry’s inaction.

Rowsell took the opportunity to question the wider issue of how such alleged behaviour is facilitated within the industry and condemned misogyny in all forms, “When will we stop enabling misogynists on the account of their success?”

Last week Manson made a statement of his own posting on his Instagram platform that the accusations were a “horrible distortion of reality.” He has since been dropped by his record label and his future remains unclear.
