Willie J Healey, the bedroom-pop bruiser has just announced a brand new EP Hello Good Morning, which will be out in November via Yala Records. But before that release drops we have the brand new video for lead single ‘Songs for Joanna’.
The track is typical Healey in the fact that it is pretty atypical of any music genre. With ranging notes of indie pop to the softer side of jazz, Healey has a habit of giving us hard-to-define yet hard-to-put-down bangers. ‘Songs for Joanna’ is no different and is our Track of the Day.
The new video is also grabbing some attention. Shot in a visually striking single-take in the grounds of Heyford House in Bicester, the video finds Willie taking centre-stage in a playful twist on the stereotypes of an English’s summer’s day. He weaves his tongue-in-cheek performance around an unlikely array of characters – including a painter, half a cricket team and a man sporting heavy make-up and a beret – before they pummel him with cakes when he jumps on their table for the song’s climactic solo.
“The ‘Songs For Joanna’ video was a lot of fun to make,” says Willie. “I like the commitment a one-take shoot forces upon you. I got to dance around a stately garden all day, dreams come true.”
So while it may well be the dreaded midpoint of the week, at least you can sit back and listen to yet another indie-pop gem from the effervescent Willie J Healey.
