Will Smith responds to AI accusations with new AI video

Will Smith has responded to accusations of him using artificial intelligence to create a crowd footage video by sharing a new AI video of his crowd as cats.

Smith recently wrapped up his UK tour, which began in Scarborough on August 24th, and also included stops in London, Manchester, Cardiff and Wolverhampton.

However, before the Oscar-winner touched down on UK shores, he shared a promotional video on YouTube looking ahead to the dates, along with the caption, “My favourite part of tour is seeing you all up close. Thank you for seeing me too.”

Notably, the video was seemingly artificially enhanced due to audience members from the crowd shots having strange, misshapen hands and extra fingers, as well as holding up misspelt signs, including one that read, “FR6SH CRINCE”.

Smith initially stayed silent amid the controversy, even when Green Day poked fun at him. The punk rock group shared a video of fans at the barrier of one of their shows singing along to ‘Basket Case’, and captioned the post, “Don’t need AI for our crowds.”

Smith has now shared another crowd footage which shows his audience with cat heads. He captioned the creepy video, “Crowd was poppin’ tonite!!”

While Smith is yet to outwardly confirm whether the original video was AI, Jesse Glass, the lead AI researcher at DecideAI, analysed the clip, and told Far Out, “It’s possible to train AI models to detect if a video clip is an output of the model; however, it requires access to the model and tons of generated content and not generated content.”

Glass added, “As a viewer, it shows several characteristics in the clips: their length, their movement, the lack of audio, and the people’s expressions that lend strength to the suspicion that this reel was augmented with AI clips.”
