Widowspeak are back with new song ‘Dog’ and LP news

Since their 2015 album All Yours the band have doubled in size from a duo to a quartet and the latest album on its way Expect The Best reflects that. The new LP is out on August 25th via Captured Tracks.

The LP was written predominantly by new frontwoman Molly Hamilton and recorded with Kevin MacMahon (Swans/Real Estate). Judging by new track ‘Dog’ it was a wise move.

The new track to lead the album charge is a beautifully melodic and dream-like song, meandering through the conscience it’s only noticeably nuanced by the odd snap of snare or twang of country swing strings.

“In the past I’ve felt compelled to write songs that are more optimistic than I’m actually feeling, as if I could make it true, as if everything in the past was significant or beautiful in a way, even if it was painful,” says Hamilton of the new album. “But the truth is that not everything makes sense, and not every day of your life is an experience of clear cut emotional clarity. I struggle with this compulsion to pull away from people, pull away from the things I enjoy doing, and sometimes literally picking up and moving away when I am feeling uneasy and anxious about my future in a given space, physical or mental. Social media these days can exacerbate that as well.”
