Whitney Houston biopic ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ announced

A brand new biopic exploring the life of iconic singer and actress Whitney Houston has been announced

The film, which will be produced by Clive Davis and directed by Stella Maghie, has been given the green light by the Whitney Houston Estate. The project was spearheaded by Davis who approached Bohemian Rhapsody screenwriter and producer Anthony McCarten with the idea.

Entitled I Wanna Dance With Somebody, the project will also include Pat Houston as a producer and acting on behalf of the Whitney Houston Estate as well as the likes of Primary Wave Music’s Larry Meste and Denis O’Sullivan.

“From all my personal and professional experience with Whitney from her late teenage years to her tragic premature death, I know the full Whitney Houston story has not yet been told,” Davis said in a statement.

“I am so glad that Anthony McCarten has committed to a no holds barred, musically rich screenplay that finally reveals the whole Whitney whose vocal genius deeply affected the world while she fiercely battled the demons that were to be her undoing.”

Houston, the most awarded female artist of all time, remains one of the best-selling music artists of all time and her influence on popular music remains her lasting legacy. With hits such as ‘I Will Always Love You’, ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’, ‘How Will I Know’ and many more, Houston’s prolific career will make for fascinating viewing as part of the biopic.

It is not known, however, how much detail the film will explore the struggles Houston dealt with in her personal life. After passing away at the age of 48 after accidentally drowning in the bathtub, the singer battled substance abuse and endured high-profile relationship issues.
