You may know Weyes Blood as Natalie Mering, or the previous vocalist of Jackie-O Motherfuckeror even Aeriel Pink contributer.
The umbrella of sudonyms that Mering sits under means nothing, really. For the latest, Weyes Blood is back with a new four-song EP called Cardamom Times.
From that EP you can hear ‘In the Beginning’, a wonderfully delicate piece of work that has an equally fitting video to suit.
“This video was shot on Super 8 film, in the Northern woods of Canada, on the abounding coast of the great lake, Lake Superior,” explains director Laura-Lynn Petrick
“The location is oriented to the early beginnings of human life, with native inhabitants living off the land as early as 500 B.C. This song was conceptualized as a new genesis, between Natalie and the earthly environment around her. She climbs the mountain, ‘Anemki-waucheu’ on precious Ojibway native land, in solitude, a quilted patchwork of captured light.
“The memories of understanding. The video takes us on a physical and mental journey, as Natalie explores the natural world, and discovers the spiritual ethos of the land.”
Weyes Blood plays the following UK gigs in November:
25 November: Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club – London
26 November: Green Door Store – Brighton
