Wes Anderson helps launch “a new kind of film club”

Director Wes Anderson is set to curate a “new kind of film club” called Galerie, supporting his long-time producers at Indian Paintbrush. The specialised subscription service will feature accompanying essays, videos and events.

The movie club has been curated by a “wide range of filmmakers, thought leaders, and innovators.” Alongside Anderson, the website teases cinematic curations from various people within the industry, including actor Taylor Russell’s collection They’re All Love Stories and director Mike Mills’ High Concepts and Everyday Realities.

Their website states: “Within Galerie, our rotating selection of curators will be your guide as you expand and deepen your journey through film alongside a vibrant community where everyone is invited to exchange ideas and expand their knowledge.”

The service has been launched with an accompanying video featuring words from Mills and Russell alongside Ethan Hawke and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Gyllenhaal hints at her involvement in curation, sharing, “I was just trying to be as honest as I could about which movies were compelling to me right now.”

Sharing his own love for cinema, Hawke stated, “If you look through the history of art it’s made because somebody has something they’re desperate to communicate. Movies are this giant collage of art.” He also teases his own collection, sharing, “I just picked movies that I flat out love.”

Alongside film collections, the service looks to deepen the cinematic journey with essays, interviews, live conversations and community screenings.

Those hoping to join the film club can get their first month free, but following the end of the introductory period, the subscription will then cost $10 a month.
