‘Wayne’s World’ star Dana Carvey mourns death of son

Dana Carvey, who starred in the hit comedy Wayne’s World, has announced the death of his 32-year-old son Dex.

Similarly to his father, Dex was drawn to comedy and pursued a career in the industry. However, he also suffered from addiction problems, which led to him suffering an accidental drug overdose on November 15th.

In a joint statement, Carvey and his wife Paula Zwagerman opened up about the “terrible tragedy” of losing their son. They wrote: “Our beloved son, Dex, died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old. Dex packed a lot into those 32 years. He was extremely talented at so many things — music, art, film-making, comedy — and pursued all of them passionately. It’s not an exaggeration to say that Dex loved life.”

“And when you were with him, you loved life too. He made everything fun. But most of all, he loved his family, his friends and his girlfriend, Kaylee. Dex was a beautiful person. His handmade birthday cards are a treasure. We will miss him forever,” the statement continued.

They concluded by poignantly writing: “To anyone struggling with addiction or who loves someone struggling with addiction, you are in our hearts and prayers.”

During his career, Dex opened up for his father in 2016 during the taping of his Netflix stand-up special Straight White Male. Carvey’s other son Thomas also works in comedy.

In 2022, the brothers teamed up with their former Saturday Night Live star father for the five-part podcast series The Weird Place, which was released through Conan O’Brien’s Team Coco.
