Waterparks condemn Donald Trump and ICE on new protest song

Waterparks have released a political protest song, titled ‘ICE’, which lashes out at President Donald Trump and the surge in ICE troops in Minneapolis.

The pop-punk band hone heavier influences in a Rage Against the Machine-inspired track, which opens with a dark guitar line, and sees singer Awsten Knight rage: “Fuck Trump / Fuck ICE / Everyone involved / Everyday is closer to the fall”.

After this repeated opening, Knight shouts, “This ain’t even politics, This is fucking war,” going on to ask the listener whether they are deciding to “wait until [ICE] show up at your place, or are we stepping to the White House gates?”

The band then turn their attention towards the president, singing: “It’s America vs Donald Trump, he could get the worst, It would never be enough, So how much fucking blood, Does it really fucking cost, To protect the paedophile, Sitting at the top?”

The call for retaliation continues, “Doxx every fucking agent,” Knight calls, asking the listener to question what they’re told by the media: “Why is it a ‘national security risk’, To know all the names on the list?”

Announcing the song, Waterparks wrote online, “Fuck ICE. Not on the album. Recorded last night.” Their upcoming sixth album is set for release this month, but this single appears to be a spontaneous stand-alone.

Waterparks aren’t the first to reignite the protest song in reaction to the situation in Minneapolis. On January 28th, Bruce Springsteen released an anti-ICE protest song, ‘Streets of Minneapolis’, in honour of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, who were both killed by ICE agents in Minnesota.

On the track, Springsteen takes down the Donald Trump administration and sings, “A city aflame fought fire and ice, ‘Neath an occupier’s boots, King Trump’s private army from the DHS, Guns belted to their coats, Came to Minneapolis to enforce the law, Or so their story goes”.
