Watch the trailer for Liam Neeson’s ‘Naked Gun’ reboot
An official trailer for Liam Neeson’s reboot of The Naked Gun has finally been released. The Taken actor brings his skills to this strange comedy that appears riddled with eye-catching aesthetics and some peculiar jokes.
Highlights throughout the trailer that reflect how much Neeson and his team have decided to push the boat out on this reboot include a shot of Neeson dressed up as a little schoolgirl and a jab at OJ Simpson.
Neeson will be making his return to the big screen, starring as Frank Drebin Jr, the son of the legendary police officer and one of the leading voices in the Naked Gun franchise, Leslie Nielsen. In the trailer, which premiered at CinemaCon on April 3rd, Neeson showed how he was bringing Nielsen’s policing stylings to a new generation of movie lovers.
Elsewhere in the trailer, Neeson’s character confronts a group of bank robbers while dressed as a little girl with an oversized lolly. “What do you want, little one?” Asks one of the robbers brandishing a machine gun. “Your ass,” replies Neeson before ripping off his mask and beginning an over-the-top fight sequence.
Akiva Schaffer, best known for his work as a third of the parody group The Lonely Island, will direct the film. Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, produced the movie alongside Erica Huggins.
The film certainly has big shoes to fill, as the original The Naked Gun: From the Files of a Police Squad was a success both critically and commercially. It starred Nielsen playing Franklin Drebin, who was a well-meaning detective at the heart of a police-based parody. The original had two sequels made after it, and Paramount has been wanting to make a reboot of the franchise since 2013.
The Naked Gun also stars Pamela Anderson, Cody Rhodes and Busta Rhymes. It’s set for release on August 1st, 2025.
